My favourite place in Basingstoke is The Bombay Sapphire Distillery

We’re a nation of explorers, and with so many hidden gems all around the UK we’re never short of great local places to discover including in Basingstoke.

And who better to share some of the best places to visit in the local area than Debbie, our Finance Administrator.

Debbie knows a thing or two about the best places to visit in Basingstoke, including her favourite spot: The Bombay Sapphire Distillery.

“I love visiting The Bombay Sapphire Distillery as it is a great place to discover how gin is made and even better to taste it!”

Get to know The Bombay Sapphire Distillery

The Laverstoke Mill dates all the way back to 1086! In 1719, the Mill was acquired by the printer Henry Portal who developed the site making it much larger to accommodate manufacturing. In particular, the manufacturing of banknotes for the British Empire in 1724.

It wasn’t until 1761 when Bombay Sapphire came into the picture. Thomas Dakin bought a site in Warrington to start distilling gin. In 1831, the family also bought a still and honed their distillation processes.

Three reasons Debbie loves visiting The Bombay Sapphire Distillery

With so much to see and experience here, it’s no wonder Debbie is a big fan! she shares three reasons why it’s her favourite place to visit in Basingstoke.

There’s so much history to learn

“I love to learn about history. Discovering the history of Bombay Sapphire and Laverstoke Mill with a host to guide you around the Dakin still house, glasshouses and grounds, is a great experience.”

“You also learn about the ecology and sustainability of the building and company.”

There are cocktail masterclasses!

“The gin cocktail masterclass is a lot of fun. You can attend an interactive mixology session and learn how to create cocktails with a gin expert, and then have a discovery experience and enjoy a drink in the Mill bar after.”

It’s a great place to relax

“The Mill Café is a great place to sit back with a coffee and relax, taking in the surroundings.”
